The song begins with the sound from a set of bassoons in the B minor key, as the main character, Gynt, comes on to the stage. Gynt insults the daughter of the Troll King, prompting Gynt to make a dangerous escape. As the key shifts to a F-sharp major, you can almost hear the Troll King bounding on the stage, chasing after Gynt. In the Hall of the Mountain King is known to be a popular Halloween song, and is also heard in movies, cartoons and TV shows.
